ASP.Net or PHP for dev

I was assigned a project where I had a choice to work with php4 or asp.net. I havent worked with either so far and I was wondering why should I use asp.net over php and vise versa? Is there speed differences between them? And which database do you think is more stable and less problem causing (sql server 2000/mysql)? Thanks for anyone who comments on this...ASP.Net is faster. PHP is fairly comperable, though a bit faster in the tests I've seen as compared to classic ASP, which, of course, is light-years behind.<BR><BR>DB stability? SQL Server, is far more stable and scalably, and offers far more functionality. But that's what you get when you compare a very expensive product ot a free one. mySQL is a nice little database, and it'll get the job done in many, many circumstances, but there *is* no real comparison between the two. They just aren't in the same league. Thanks, That helped me to clear a few things up. I never realized that SQL Server had more features ( havent used it yet).
