This may sound like a stupid question but let me begin by saying I'm an avid blog reader. I'm also an avid blog writer.
Occasionally I will read an interesting post or two and leave a comment with my opinion about it. My comments are never spammy and always on topic (I guess that's why they're always approved)..Anyways, of course when leaving a comment I will throw my name (not keyphrase - but first name or company name) in the name box and my url in the website box.
When doing so does this count as a good backlink or does wordpress use the nofollow tactic on blog post comments? Yes, the default for comments on WordPress is nofollow but there are "do follow" plug-ins. WP default as nofollow but some owner change them to dofollow.
You can actually use firefox addon - searchstatus to check whether it is dofollow or nofollow Use SEO for Firefox addon and test if it is nofollow or dofollow before commenting. Quote: Originally Posted by c407265

This way we save a lot of time and are sure if we'll get a backlink or not. You can get a firefox plugin called SEOQuake that will show you if a link is nofollow or not
If you want the comments on your blog to have the nofollow removed, you can add a plugin for that

If you want the comments on your blog to have the nofollow removed, you can add a plugin for that Yes but if you have a relevant and proper comment which is helpful for others can help in generating some traffic from other blogs. WP by default carries the nofollow attribute on their comment section.
But, I think it doesn't matter if it is nofollow or dofollow, any links, associated with good quality content matters a lot in terms of branding, traffic, company profile and sometimes, rankings. wordpress is a no follow attribute but you can still change it to a do follow plug-ins. i always used keyphrase as name in my blog commenting as its a technique for keyword ranking. Entering the Name of the Company counts as a back link, of course with the URL of the site written on the URL field. It is also important that you comment on blogs that are relevant to the niche of your company business. Relevancy should be considered.
