Are Directory Submissions a better backlink?

I have a question that I would like to have expert opinions on.I wrote a software application called Directory Site Submitter during the middle of last year.Generally sales were OK but not great. I wrote the application after the google updates which was devaluing reciprocal links (I had lots of them on my money site) and thought that there would be a rush to do directory submissions by webmasters. My question, is whether directory submissions are going to continue to be a viable backlink in the eyes of the search engines in 2007?The reason that I ask is that I'm trying to decide whether I should work on any significant enhancements to the software for 2007 or should I put my focus elsewhere. Also, are there any guesses as to other link strategies for 2007 that are going to become hot or go extinct? Thanks much,Tony StaiI think getting backlinks from submitting articles will still remain one of great ways of building links and traffic for a long time. Content will still be king. Link farms will surely come to an end sooner. It really depends on the directory.Submitting to a thousand crap directories will do very little in terms of SEO.Submitting to 100 good ones will.I would give the ability to vary the anchor/title text if I were you. With directories its All about PR, Theming and ammount of onpage content to links ratios.Yeah ...darksat is right... submitting to 100 top directories would be equal to 1000 crap directories and will gaim that same importance.i think one can try these all submissions such as ,.... in Directories, rss submission, article submission with your site link and with keywords of your site in it with good manner, forum discussion with your signature in it, blog submission if you have one in your site... and much more .... i think doing these all is enough to get good results in search engines. And yes onpage optimization is very important.Try this out and wait for some time to get good results in se's.AND I THINK MANUAL SUBMISSION WILL BE THE GOOD ONE INSTEAD OF SUBMISSION WITH THE HELP OF AN SOFTWARE.Puneet MFor me directory submissions have worked a lot in past.I get PR 3 to PR 4 from doing the directory submission campaign.I also do article submissions sometimes when there is not enough boost from directories.hi, so far google is emphasizing on link building. link building will remain in demand of google. unless untill you go for link building you can not make your site wide spreaded.if every body will concentrate on link building in terms of directory submision, then google may play some new game to make the seo more competitive. whenever the google secret reveales, google change the game plan. but so far it does not seems to be any substantial change.Google like natural, quality link building. Links have never been about quantity and have always been about quality. 1 link from a quality trusted site will always be better than 100 links from directories where all you have to do to get your link listed is submit it.The automatic submissions are not encouraged by seo experts. So one should opt for manual submissions.
