I know their old API did but you needed a Google key to access it.
The new AJAX API does not require a key which is great but I am wondering if anyone here has used it and if so whether you know if it returns the total count of pages returned by a search query for a given keyword phrase?
I am referring to the the number that shows up at the tail end of "Results 1 - 10 of about --> 33,500,000 <--"
If I can use the AJAX API to automate my getting these numbers it would save me a lot of time in keyword research.
The other thing I would like to do is figure out a way to use the Google API to determine the exact rank position of all my sites so that I can track improvements in their rank and better gauge how successful my efforts are.
Any input on whether Google allows these types of things through their new API and whether it is even capable of returning this kind of information would be appreciated.
I can automate access and scrape Google's content directly but I don't think Google allows that sort of thing and would prefer to do it through an officially sanctioned means like through the Google API if at all possible.
