Is there any ranking preference for sites that have .org versus .com and so forth? I generally stick to .com and then .net second. I do know people who have .org and do well but they do well because they have great content, do great seo, and work hard. Personally, I think if you work hard, have a great site, do all the legal SEO tricks (don't try to bend the rules or take shortcuts), then you're going to rank higher than a .com that doesn't have good content or SEO.
However, I personally rather do both. Find a .com that works well and do all the proper stuff like quality content, be active, white hat SEO. Then you don't have to worry about anything. I think it does not matter. I think your safe with using one of those as a choice...outside of that, unless it is a country domain and you are targetting your country, is a waste to me I think it generally does matter...
It matters quite a bit.
Word of mouth is quite a good advertisement for your website, plus one of the best when its a website for the locals.
If somebody is told a name of a website, they generally go home and type either in google... or www.websitename(dot)com, .net, .co.uk (or country variable)... .org generally does not come into the equation unless its actually an Organisation. Better go with .com because the second preference will be .net and .org and be clear with your off page work for the ranking position. From SEO side,it doesn't matter which Top Level Domain is better.
The .comTLD is allowed to any person to register.
The .gov TLD is limited to governmental entities and agencies.
the .net TLD is also allowed to any person to register.its basically for domains pointing to a distributed network of computer. I choose .com I will give preference to .com. I will personally prefer .com and then .net. As always content is king, if you have fresh content updated daily then you will get traffic and backlinks resulting benefit in seo and ranking. So the main and important factor is content and I think then .com or .net.
SEODigi I have read a lot about the subject and even did some testing on my own, my conclusion is that it doesnt matter what TLD do you have, as long as your content is good and you have a big diversity of backlinks I think the name of the site is important than the TLD, i would rather have a .org but get the right key words in my domain name than get the .com or .co.uk TLD It does not matter, what does matter is the quality of content on the site. Any evidence saying one domain extension is better then another is purely anecdotal. The only difference that make me opt for .com is that maximum people type this as default with any site name. Also I don't think it makes much difference from SEO point. They all can rank good in SERP if right efforts and put in right direction. You can opt for anyone.
