Any advice on how to make forum succesful?

I am launching my forum in march and I want to know how do you get people typing and basically make your forum a success. I have done a google search but would like more anecdotes from the vbteam. What can I do? Thanks
 
More info is needed to help us help you such as what topic you forum is based around...
eg:
Warez,
Gaming,
Webmastering,
GFX,
General discussion,
Curtain script help (like us = vBulletin)

etc etc...

- What your other needs are,
and any other info you wish to share with us that may help us to help you.

Thank you its actually more family oriented. I want to have a market place (using itrader/hyena cart, etsy and the like) for work at home parents.
-forums dealing with loss/discipline and childrearing any suggestions?
