Aged domains

Im looking at a couple of domains one is 9 years old and the other 4 years. I prefer the 4 year old name slightly more but I wondered how much google would prefer the 9 year old domain. Is it worth going for the 9 year old over the 4 year or should I go for the name I prefer (the other names good too just a close second) Quote: Originally Posted by visionwindowfilms Im looking at a couple of domains one is 9 years old and the other 4 years. They should both be good

I'd look at the indexed pages on Google to see how recently they were cached

I'd then look at the backlinks, alexa, esitestats.com, to guage the site's ranking abilities

If they're just domain names and not developed sites, then they're not much good anyway A bit of age either way is a good thing... make sure you keep it on theme if it's a dropped domain, personally i would go off the backlinks more than the age - i tend to think google would think the internet is in the here and now - not in the once was... I agree with dietcola. In addition google is getting wiser at sniffing this buying aged domains practice by also observing how long the domain has been live, how many times the domain has been transferred etc.. Unless the site you're developing has a very competitive keyword I wouldn't make the domain age and effort to focus on. When I launch new projects I register a new name and simply register it for 10 years. This in googles eyes is very authoritative. Domain-age is one of the factor while selecting the domain...but there are also other factors like keyword rich domain or niche specific domain...one should also consider these actors...4 yr old domain with keyword is better than irrelevant 9 year domain... aged domain is always good for receiving traffic from the old visitors.. also, their indexed pages might help to get a new visitors now..

but, of course, you still need to build backlinks and do some promotion for current content..
