Adjusting color in Microsoft Paint

Hello, I'm having trouble adjusting the right colors in Microsoft's Paint. Every time I copy and paste a picture from the internet to Microsoft's Paint, the colors turn out to be way different than the original picture's color. I don't know how to fix this problem. I tried to invert the colors but that wouldn't work and draw opaque but that wouldn't work either. Why are the colors different and blurry if the original color isn't like that at all? Please help! I would greatly appreciate you help! Thank you!1] if you are useing windows 95, paint has problems with gif's and jpg's which are not fully supported in the 95 release.
2] As far as I know, someone may wish to correct me, but paint only provides for 256 colours. So if the image you wish to use has more, you will lose some information from a pic, especially if it is a jpeg. However, gif's have a max of 256 colours as well.
Alternativly, I suggest you get a better image program. Go to http://www.tuwcows.com for loads of free software. Plenty to get the artistic skills going.
