Hi guys, I am looking to put a banner at the top of the forum in the header beside the invison logo. What section do I go into cpanel to upload my banner and place it as a header?
you all have been alot of help getting me started with building a forum and I am very thankful. You have taught me so much and I am getting the hang of it, but still need a little help.

You can place the image anywhere in your domain. You just have to code the full url into the section where you want it to appear.

I want to fill in that with my custom banner, Thank you alot for the help. Me and all my members thanks you for helping me along to provide a great board for the members. Thanks guys.
Might I suggest reading some basic HTML tutorials first? If you're going to keep up any kind of website, you really ought to know how to code things.

I just got more lost. These guys have been great teaching me the correct way to set up things. I didn't want to start playing with codes etc... and mess my site up. I wanted to confirm the correct and safest way to tackle a project without causing a big problem, and I am learning as I go with all the great help these guys have provided.
bellringr, I hope to be as good as you are at this, and I will, with a little help from the TCH Techs. Thanks for the help.
It would go into the same section of the skin_global file where you replaced the board logo with your own. (logo4.gif, logo.gif)
Hi Moon,

I agree with what bellringr says, taking the time to learn HTML will be most satisfing to you, especially when you can look and say "wow, I did this all by myself"
But I also understand the desire to 'get things done as quick as possible'....
So I have been asking myself, in following your questions, should I just spell out everything exact code as you need it, that I have figured out in time when I was modifing IPB, or give you 'tips' on what to do.......
So here goes my 'tips', just to get you thinking , first, before you make any change to a template, save a copy of the existing on your computer, that way if you really mess it up, just replace it with your good one.
Then, to add in something like a 'banner', start just by placing a few characters in the HTML (like few XXXXX's), just to see where they show up, in relation to everything else. Then place you banner on the server, might as well put it in the same directory as the IPB logo, that way you can use the same file path to call for it. Then go and place you image code to call for it.
Just keep in mind when placing this banner, not everyone has the same size monitor at the same resolution as yours. It may look great on your's, but some poor soul still using a 15" at a 640 x 480 resolution would be different from a 19" at 1024 x 768 or even greater. You certainly don't want it to be so big that it forces a horizontal scroll bar in the browser window.
As Bruce says the editing you need to do is in the "skin_global file", just like in one of your last posts when you were changing your logo, which you figured out
So I say, play around a bit and see what you can do, then when the need comes for a specific question, it will be easy to provide the specific help needed

Good day , Tom
Very Good Advice Tom, I will take that to heart. I did put up my banner yesterday and made it work. everything is good now. Sorry to have ask so many questions, I have made changes before and messed up my board and locked it up and a tech had to go in a reset it. I was just trying to be safe with my moves with codes. Besides this is a support forum and you have been so much help and taught me alot of how to go about doing things. After you have explaned it to me, when I read back over the HTML tutorials, I understand alot better now. Thanks for your time and knowlege. Much Respect!!! Thanks,
