If you still believe Keyword Density is a ranking factor, you are not alone ?even some experienced and intelligent people in the business suffer from a belief in this myth. As SEOMoz expert Rand Fishkin http://www.seomoz.org/blog/perfecting-keyword-targeting-on-page-optimization and reminds us that Information Retrieval Science has proven that it cannot be used as a ranking factor. See: http://www.miislita.com/fractals/keyword-density-optimization.html.
Okay, I know the scientific density of those articles may make your eyes glaze over or leave you feeling like it's just too much work to wade through and find the truth, so would you believe me if I showed you a Googler who says it doesn't exist?

Question: Quote: Many believe that to rank well, you simply need "quality" backlinks. But how important is having your keywords in the , and throughout your site? Is keyword density of any importance to show what the page is about? What % is suggested?
tewmonkey, cardiff, wales Answer from Google Project Manager (bold mine):
Quote: Links are just one factor involved in Google's ranking of pages. We look at both on-page and off-page content, so what you have on your page can be an essential part of ranking. However, there is no recommended "keyword density." Your content should be high quality and written for users. If you try writing for search engines, the language can become very unnatural, which may end up hurting you more than it helps.

Wysz, Mountain View, CA I have to agree with cricket on this one, as long as the key words are being used in heading tags, and not scattered constantly through the body, then not only are you getting your key word use, but your information should still read smooth. I just remember a funny story when you talk about keyword density. Of course every one knows the importance of keyword density but the ideas are different for percentage of it. One f my friends posted a reply in a seo forum about keyword density and he told, stuffing a page with keywords can't help you to rank high in search engines because search engines detect that you are cheating their algorithms, and he got banned after posting it
. Its really funny and i can't believe it but its real. The admins of that forum believed that you can stuff pages with keywords and rank high in search engines. Some SEO companies have developed tool for keyword density. Can you imagine? I just recently had a problem when one company that tried to take over my client. It was their most important tool. I'm just one person and they are company with lots of employees and "SEO tools". They almost did it. The importance of keyword density? The point of the thread is that as long as you don't overdo keywords it's not something of any importance.
There are only erroneous ideas about the percentage because there is no correct percentage ... it is not a ranking factor.
