Domain kiting refers to what some domain registrars do to take advantage of a five day refund period on domain names, which all registrars have when registering a name. Domain kiting occurs when a registrar registers thousands (sometimes hundreds of thousands) of domain names, posts a website with paid advertisements on it for each of the domains, wait five days, and then cancels the domains to receive a full refund from the registry. Many of the domains they register have been in prior use and have expired, and have already been indexed by Google, Yahoo! and other search engines. As a result, the websites they post receive instant free traffic and generate large revenues from the advertisements.
