a:hover and animated gif issues

Hi everyone, I am interested in gauging peoples experience of using an animated gif as an a:hover background image replacement method for a menu.
I have an example on <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.sitewiz18.co.uk/">http://www.sitewiz18.co.uk/</a><!-- m -->
it appears to work fine on my pc but a colleague's who has virtually exactly the same system is experiencing a delay on the rollover. I don't have any sort of preloader operating, i didn't think this was necessary as it isn't using any javascript..
Absolutely any input is useful
Thanks everyone..Hi!

It is a difference in the settings. For IE that would mean, that in the internet options there is a difference in the settings for temporary internet files. Your collegue must have the first option checked (don't know what that reads in English, my OS speaks German to me). Anyway that means, that the graphics are not loaded from the cache if already there, but that they are Download ed everytime.

Regards PJThanks
The temporary internet settings were different and this did cure the ailment-is there anyway of overriding the settings on the clients browser so that this does not happen even if they have these annoying settings??Originally posted by stunews

The temporary internet settings were different and this did cure the ailment-is there anyway of overriding the settings on the clients browser so that this does not happen even if they have these annoying settings?? Well the settings might annoy you, but imagine how annoying it would be for the users, if their (mostly deliberately chosen) settings could be overridden. Fortunately, we do not have the chance to touch the users' settings.

PJBut the problem in this circumstance is that the browser is looking for updates second to second when it is a static page and it should only look for new content on, at the very most, an hourly basis.
I have found a link on updating a http header, can you shed any light on how this might work to rectify the problem?
thanks
