Hi,
I'm planning to pick-up a great 7 year old domain PR=0 and are planning on using it as an additional site, purely for organic rankings.
My question, is how hard can we push it with back links? Should we be safe and hire an seo company with a litany of clean, high pr blogs that will link back to us, at least in the beginning? Or should we just go balls to the wall?
It's a semi-competitive space, some pr 3 and 4 websites, but most are fairly weak.
Any and all ideas are helpful. just really want to get some thoughts on how to handle such an aged domain...usually, I start off with fresh ones. I personally would treat it the same as a new one, i.e. start off slowly and build up over a few months. If it has no PR it probably has very few links either, so suddenly chucking hundreds of links at it would not appear natural, especially if it's been sitting around for 7 years already. Thanks for your reply. I really appreciate it. You think hiring an SEO company can make a difference? I couldn't possibly answer that without giving a totally biased opinion! Are your site have unique and quality content on every page?are your meta tags are fresh?Does your site have some trusted back links? If all of these you have, then your PR should be increased. Can you tell me more about your site and site structure? see if it is blacklisted if not grab it if you have your keyword in it. Indeed treat it as if it were a new site.
Btw are you sure about the 7 years - did it continue all the time ? Or was it re-registered somewhere during this time ? If the domain was bought 7 years ago, but used only for one year or if it was blacklisted in the past then its age won't help you much. And I also agree, treat it as new and start slowly with SEO. My 5 months old domain got Page Rank, becuase we do continuously SEO with our website. Actually it is totally depends upon how much back links your grab. how were you able to find ranking of websites accurately if it was indexed in google 7 years ago then id push it hard w backlinks Quote: Originally Posted by alsoyoutube how were you able to find ranking of websites accurately I use the webrank SEO tool - firefox add-on

You're a genius - it didn't occur to me that it might had been re-registered. If it is - what would you suggest? You think the site would be penalized for that?
Thank you to all the responses - I really appreciate it. A 7 year old domain which has PR of zero, with no backlinks, website or contents can be very similar to a brand new site which is just about going to begin from beginning stages. It actually is up to you whether you should get in touch with an SEO company or do the job yourself but try answering this question that have you accomplished some serious SEO jobs yet, so that you can continue working on your new site? You know, in theory SEO might seem easy to approach but sometimes it is a forbidding task.
Try thinking before taking actions. Examine your main competitors' websites to figure out how they are operating online, what ranges of contents plus links they are powered with and how experienced the admins are. In some cases, getting that specific one text link from a certain net spot will be enough to push your web rank to the front page of Google and other times, hundreds of links could be just okay to grab but they will not be the determining factors, especially in very hot niches.
For very hot fields, patience would be needed as well, as even with good links and information-rich contents, your domain may not change a bit for weeks or a couple of months and in the meantime you should be patient and act logically, not resorting to fast shortcuts or methods that may totally damage your web status online. Before registering the domain do some research as to what the site was all about when it was live, it won't be very good for you have a completely site running on that same domain. If it is a 7 year old domain you really need to slow and steady with the links and make sure that the link are as natural as possible.
It will be good for you if you can get links from authority sites in your niche. But you need to be very careful while building links. I would advice you to only buy the domain if you really have to and if you do be very careful with it for atleast an year. Hire a seo company or individual. Give them 10hrs a week and ask them to create high quality high PR links only. Also tell them to that you need quality and not quantity. If they create 20-30 links on authority sites every week then it would be great for you site. Quote: Originally Posted by tdot55 Hi,

Making the decision weather or not to go hard on it initially depends on quite a few factors, with the most important one being - Was it indexed by Google during those 7 Years?
Even if it was created 7 years ago if it was not in Google's Index then it will not make a difference and it will be treated by the Algorithms like a brand new site.
Also are you going to use this as a "Link Juice Funneling" site or there won't be any connection between your main site and this one ?
If you are using it as the first thing, you might as well just do a 301 Redirect of the whole domain to your real website and go all out with different types of links in commercial quantities. what depends too, is the backlink page rank. If it gets one backlink from a brand new self hosted blog.. then it will be shut down.
but if you get a backlink from a very trusted site, then your safe. Thats my rule of thumb Thank you guys I read all your replies - I really appreciate it.
I'm all pumped reading them all. This is the best crowd ever !
