Nice read. I haven't made any of these mistakes, yet I haven't really delved into social marketing either. Now maybe it's time. I'm going through a similar situation right now. I'm looking for a new job - so I have been networking w/ ppl on LinkedIn. It does really work - but as the article says - it takes time. Man - does it! Anyway thanks a lot for sharing this useful stuff. \[quote\]I don't take it as mistakes but fault beliefs ... just like some myths in SEO. Here is my opinion: (Using facebook fan page)
1. Using Social Media As An Advertising Vehicle
Many people are blinded by social media powers, they take it as advantage to advertise their product / services. Expect links ... links ... links ... in their posts but pointing in their own website or blog.
2. Assuming Social Profiles Will Replace Your Website
This hit the nail on the head ... bulls eye baby! I must admit this is very true, count me in. We setup a fan page, doing some touches to make it so beautiful ... what happened to our website? Still full of boxes, not so good, we left it behind. Can anybody suggest me how to design a website using joomla? PM me!
3. Expecting Overnight Success
I'm certain, 80% of fan page owners the privacy of each posts made is "Public", which make all updates visible in everyone's homepage. Hoping somebody will make their dream come true ... oh, wishing upon a star.
4. Targeting The Wrong Audience
One of the major player, audience. This will dictate how long will your facebook / twitter or any social media survive with the help of real and interested people. We should know where they are and how they search the web. Stalk them maybe?
\[/quote\] The blog post is really worth to read. I think one of the most common mistakes that most social media marketers do is they target the wrong audience. It's really important to avoid this one. It will be hard for you to brand your company to people that are not really interested to your site.
