I'm very familiar with 301 redirects however something new to me has come up. My client is entertaining the idea of using URL Rewrites on their Apache servers to redirect page.
The official challenge is that there is duplicate content. filename.html and filename.shtml and I am going to eliminate the "shtml" versions of over 200 pages.
Does anyone understand the adverse effects of URL rewrites if any as compared to a 301 redirect?
