I have an extablished HTML site. When I amend or update existing pages, the hite rate for the page in questions drops through the floor. I've read 301 Redirect can help in some way using the .htaccess file, but all tutorials I read focus target="_blank">ChristianPrayerReflections.co.uk I have a page called JeanVanierprofile.html . If I want to update the page without losing hits everytime I amend it, what can i do? Any ideas? I'm a bit of a beginner on this.
James
a 301 redirect, as the name suggests, redirects the user to a new page... that is all they are used for

for example if you change contact.html to contact-us.html you would set up a redirect from the old address to the new one, so that people coming in from external links dont get lost.

301's dont have anything to do with your traffic levels on a static page, updating a page should not have any negative effect on traffic either
