The 10,000 foot explanation is that the world of search engine optimization (SEO) is mightily complex, because the job of the search engines is so complex. They deal with a web that has more than 1 trillion pages, crawl and perform a semantic analysis on a large portion of those, build a complete map of all the links between sites and web pages, put that in a database system spread across the entire planet, and respond to user search queries in less than 0.2 seconds. Google also professes to use more than 200 search ranking factors.
In addition, Google is battling against the spammers of the world. The spammers are constantly trying to figure out ways around Google's algorithm to obtain rankings that they don't deserve. In defense, Google and Bing both don't provide details of their ranking algorithms. The less that spammers know, and the harder it is to figure out by testing, the better.
In spite of all this, common advice by SEOs tend to focus on a few factors, such as: Read more http://searchenginewatch.com/3641103 Thanks you for sharing this impressive information. I am working on the other factors and still struggles to have good results. I'm hoping that I can also apply the rest of the strategies as well and come up with good ranking results. I might add that sometimes not sharing information emboldens spammers. If a spammer spends all day, every day studying the way Google ranks sites and a business owner can only put in 10 hours a week to their online presence, who do you think is going to be more successful? In that way, I think an argument could be made that more information benefits the business owner, of course it will NEVER happen! One thing nobody talk about, algorithms changes are not perfect and when Google create a new filter to fight spammers, many legitimate pages could be affected, in fact some are wrongly hit.
Many small business owners put much more than 10 hours to promote their business. If your site have a presence on internet for a while, it will be much more difficult for a spammer to outrank you and if they do you can always report them to the search engine spam teams.
Keep in mind that a spammer will never provide quality, and that is precisely where a business owner can make the difference by focusing and working to increase quality on their sites and reputations on internet. @aman101 and @Armanarora
You guys have very similar things to say.... VERY similiar...
Anyway back on topic... I don't care much for the domain age argument which is trotted out every now and then...
It's kind of like saying "all things being equal" when in fact, all other factors are never equal, so throwing domain age into the mix does nothing but confuses us and makes us chase those expensive expiring domains. Well the domain age factor is supposed to indicated a stability. Like anything it could be manipulated from buying them.
I don't think it is a factor that count a lot in SEO you have to worry about, perhaps the least. Very good information. Thank you very much for sharing. SEO is a complicated process and does require almost daily attention. I totaly agree about the domain age factor, most people not know how important it is, google have great "respect" to the age of the domain, but its very important that it will be an active site as well for all the years. But i don't think Domain age to be very important factor yet. You see some websites with 3-4 years old that are ranked very well on Google or other search engines.
I know domain age is a factor but not such important as you say.
