Write the following from left to right C D M V T

Memorize the saying "Can Dead Men Vote Twice At Elections?"
C is compass bearing, D is deviation, M is magnetic bearing, V is variation, and T is true bearing. When you write the various components in this order, you Add East as you go from left to right.

Fill in the given information, in this problem, C V and T are known. First figure out M. Since V is 5.0E and T is 067.8, and you are adding easterly quantities as you go right, M must be 062.8 (or 067.8 - 5.0). Now, the difference between C and M is 5.2, and you assign the direction West to it because that follows the rule of adding easterly quantities and subtracting westerly quantities as you move right.

when going from true to compass add westerly variation/deviation and subtract easterly. remember
east is least(subtract) and west is best (add)
