From the descriptive text to Ruby installer on the coverdisc (DVD) of a well respected IT publication in the UK (these guys really should know better, they attempt to give the impression that they are all IT PROs):

Unlike Perl or PHP, Ruby requires no line termination when writing code, making it an ideal language for quick development tasks.

I do not question & cannot verify or dispute that Ruby may surpass other languages when it comes to 'quick development tasks' (if you can come up with a workable definition - or indeed any defitnition for what is a quick development task, else how can you ever hope to test & validate the claim?)

However I am almost 100% certain that if this were true it would not in any way depend on line termination syntax.

Am I missing the point?

This post has been edited by xof: 28 Aug, 2006 - 01:15 AM
